Shuckin’ in the Park Oyster Roast Celebrates 20 Years
MONCKS CORNER, S.C. – Grab your oyster knives for the 20th annual Shuckin’ in the Park Oyster Roast on Saturday, March 9, at Old Santee Canal Park. Park gates open at 9 a.m. and oysters will be served from 1 to 6 p.m.
Tickets to the oyster roast are $5. Children 12 and under are admitted free, and there is a jump castle for their enjoyment. Tickets can be purchased at the park’s gatehouse or inside the Interpretive Center during regular park hours of 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Buckets of oysters are $10. Food tickets will be available for purchase the day of the event. Even if oysters aren’t your cup of brine, there will be hamburgers, hot dogs and the famous “Shuckin’ fish stew” for sale. Live entertainment is again from Customs 4 and Friends, whose blend of beach music, oldies and popular music has made them a local favorite.
The historic park features boardwalks and canoe rentals to explore Biggin Creek. At the Interpretive Center you can learn about America’s first true canal, the Santee Canal, constructed from 1793 to 1800.
For the 11th consecutive year, 100 percent of Shuckin’ in the Park's electricity needs will be powered by renewable Green Power from Santee Cooper. Santee Cooper generates Green Power from clean, renewable energy sources including landfill methane gas, solar power and wind power right here in South Carolina. Green Power is Green-e Energy certified and meets the environmental and consumer-protection standards set forth by the nonprofit Center for Resource Solutions. Learn more at www.green-e.org.
Small coolers are allowed , but visitors are asked to keep their pets and golf carts at home. This is a special event so admission with an annual park pass does not apply. For more information, call the park at 843-899-5200 or visit www.oldsanteecanalpark.org.
