Santee Cooper Hosting Lineworkers’ Rodeo

MONCKS CORNER, S.C. – Santee Cooper is hosting its 22nd annual Lineworkers’ Rodeo April 26 and April 27 at Old Santee Canal Park in Moncks Corner. The public is invited to watch line technicians vie for the title at the rodeo’s events.

The Lineworkers’ Rodeo is designed to showcase lineworkers’ skills and talent in a fun and safe environment. It’s also intended to build camaraderie among the lineworkers and strengthen their knowledge and ability in the areas of safety, teamwork and productivity.

“Our line techs do an incredible job in some really tough conditions to keep reliability of the distribution and transmission systems best in class,” said Tom Kierspe, vice president of transmission operations. “The rodeo is a chance for them to showcase their skills where family, friends and coworkers can observe and understand what they do every day.”

The rodeo includes an apprentice division for line technicians who have been in the business for fewer than two years and a journeyman division, both with multiple competitive events.

“Most people only appreciate line techs during storms or outages, but the fact is they are out there every day in a very demanding environment doing a fantastic job of making sure the lights come on when people flip the switch,” said Kierspe.

The rodeo is open to anyone who is or was a qualified practicing lineworker employed by Santee Cooper, an electric cooperative or an electric municipality of South Carolina. Learn more about the rodeo at
