Celebrate The Season Raises More Than $75,000 for Local Charities
MONCKS CORNER, S.C. – The 2019 Celebrate The Season annual holiday event raised more than $75,000, which will be distributed to charitable organizations in Berkeley County and the surrounding area. The festival has been held every year since 2011 and has brought in a combined total of $956,536 through sponsorships and other proceeds from the event.
“We’re honored to be able to work with so many great people and organizations every year that help make this event a success, including presenting sponsor Berkeley Electric Cooperative,” said Santee Cooper President and CEO Mark Bonsall. “During these trying times, it’s particularly rewarding to be able to bring back some holiday cheer to those in need.”
Santee Cooper is the organizer for Celebrate The Season and Tinsel Trot, which are held annually at the utility's Moncks Corner headquarters and its adjacent Old Santee Canal Park. Berkeley Electric Cooperative is Celebrate The Season's presenting sponsor.
The event features the Holiday Lights Driving Tour, which consists of dozens of dazzling displays. Visitors pay $5 per vehicle to drive the mile-long stretch from Santee Cooper’s headquarters into Old Santee Canal Park. Other festivities include the Tinsel Trot 2-mile run/walk through the lights and the Holiday Fairs, which provide family-friendly entertainment, food, arts and crafts, and a visit with Santa Claus at Moncks Corner Regional Recreation Center.
Santee Cooper distributed $52,634 in donations from the 2019 Celebrate The Season proceeds to the Town of Moncks Corner Miracle Field Project and the Coastal Community Foundation's Giving Back to Berkeley Fund. Each charity received $26,317. A $10,000 donation also was made to the Berkeley County Museum and Heritage Center.
Along with Berkeley Electric Cooperative, major sponsors Berkeley County, Goodwill Industries, and Home Telecom each received $3,358 to give to charities of their choosing: Callen-Lacey Center for Children, Berkeley County Economic Development Corporation, the Palmetto Warrior Connection, and the Home Community Fund.
In addition to Celebrate The Season's focus on charitable giving, the event is also distinguished by exclusively using energy-efficient LED lights in the displays lining the Holiday Lights Driving Tour, and by powering the entire festival with renewable Green Power from Santee Cooper.
