Community Cares - A New Way to Give and Receive

The new year is bringing a brand new program to Santee Cooper customers! We have eagerly prepared for its launch and are very excited to introduce you to Community Cares, our very own customer assistance program.

Each year, we have customers and local businesses who ask for ways to contribute some extra funds toward utility bills. We also have customers who may experience an unforeseen financial hardship and are looking for a little extra assistance. The goal was to develop a structured assistance program that would meet the needs for both requests – Community Cares is the solution.

Santee Cooper created Community Cares in collaboration with United Way of Horry County to assist our residential customers in Horry, Georgetown and Berkeley counties. As funding is established, the assistance will be available to residential customers who have a traditional or PrePay account and have experienced hardship. We anticipate the first batch of assistance funding will be available for customers mid-to-late April 2022.

United Way of Horry County, Trident United Way, Black River United Way, and their assisting agencies will be responsible for evaluating the customers’ eligibility for assistance. Those who meet eligibility requirements may receive assistance once in a 24-month period to offset the cost of their electric bill and avoid disconnection.

We believe Community Cares will be a huge success with your help. You can contribute to the Community Cares fund by making a credit card contribution online or a one-time cash or check donation at your local Santee Cooper retail office. You can even opt-in to add a recurring Community Cares donation of your choice to your monthly utility bill by calling our office at 800-804-7424 or sending an email to customerassistance@santeecooper.com.

There are some exclusions and limitations for assistance. If you’d like more information about this program, visit www.santeecooper.com/assistance.

Make an impact within your community by donating today!
